Club Notes -9th December 2017

Congratulations to the U14 Drumcullen Seir Kieran Hurlers who had their Medal presentation on Saturday evening in Clareen. Many thanks, to all of the parents who provided refreshments on the night and to both Club Committees. Thanks also to David Glennon from Galway who travelled up on the night to present the medals and brought the Liam McCarty Cup.

The Hurling and Camogie clubs are holding a Christmas might in The Ramblers Rest Killyon on the 29th of December at 9;30. Parents, coaches and members are invited to an end of year party. We will have music and spot prizes on the night.

The annual hurling puc fada on the road takes place again on St. Stephens Day from the clubhouse at 11:am to The Ramblers Rest Killyon where refreshments will be served. Entry for adults is €10 and €5 for underage. This is a great family fun day and all are welcome. All proceeds in aid of Rath development.

We wish our Assistant Secretary Kathleen O’Brien a speedy recovery from her recent illness.

There is an event in Birr Library on November 29th at 6.30. Paul Rouse talks to Brian Whelan, Billy Dooley & Mark Corrigan as part of the Offaly Hurling Series.

We wish Kilcormac/Killoughey best of luck in the Leinster Club hurling final this Sunday against Cuala in Portlaoise.

Rath Eglish Foroige Club are running a fundraiser by selling calendars. They are supporting Laois Offaly Families for Autism and The Streetwise Charity. Calendars are €8 each and available from any member or from Oonahgs shop.

Well done to Rath Drama group on their terrific and entertaining performance of Widows Paradise recently.

Our playing field is now closed for maintenance work to have it ready for 2018.

Club Notes – 19th November 2017

Annual General Meeting

Our AGM was held on Friday 10th November. A comprehensive report was circulated to all present by our secretary and treasurer. Discussions were then held on both documents. This was followed by the Chairman’s address which reflected on the past year and outlined to all his vision for the upcoming year. Useful discussions then followed by all present on the direction the club is taking and on many other topics of sporting interest. The members present were highly appreciative of the great work of the outgoing executive throughout the year. Officers elected for the coming year were as follows: Life President: Mick Spain; President: Fr. John Moorehead, Vice-Presidents: Billy Gath, Peadar Lyons and Francis O’Brien. Chairman: Toni Ryan, Vice-Chairman: Declan Murray, Secretary: Dermot Horan, Assistant Secretary: Joseph Mannion, Treasurer: Peter Lyons.  Assistant Treasurer: Kathleen O’Brien. P.R.O: Joe O’Brien, Assistant P.R.O: Peter Darcy. Vacancies for remaining positions will be filled by the incoming committee. 

Leinster Club Championship

Well done to Kilcormac/Killoughey for recent win over Mount Leinster Rangers and we wish them best of luck in the final against Cuala in the Leinster Club final.

Liam Lyons Academy

Activity for 2017 is now at a close. We are grateful for all the commitment and support from so many people including parents and coaches throughout the year in helping with our children and for those engaging in Coaching courses to develop skills.  

Widows paradise

Rath Drama Group hold their annual play in Rath Hall from Fri, Sat & Sun next.  Curtains raised at 8pm sharp. Tickets are €10 each and booking is essential on 085 2017800. Going on previous performance this is well worth attending.

Field Fixture

The minor hurling semi-final between Ferbane/Belmont and Ballinamere/Durrow fixed for Saturday last had to be postponed due to an unplayable pitch following incessant rain. The game is now re-fixed for bank holiday Monday. Support is needed for stewarding and car parking and we hope for the usual good response. Throw in is at 2pm.

Golf Society

We wish the members and associates of the golf society an enjoyable and successful trip this week-end as the converge on Blarney Hotel and Golf club.

Field Fixture

On Saturday next we host Ferbane/Belmont v Ballinamere in one of the Minor Hurling Semi-Final. Support is needed for stewarding and car parking and we hope for the usual good response. Throw in is a 12 mid-day.

Scoil Eoin

We would love to hear from anyone – female or male- available on Friday mornings from 11.15 to 12.45 to assist with coaching in the school. No previous experience is necessary as the programme is well established and managed.

C.E. Scheme

There will shortly be a vacancy for a C.E Scheme worker for our grounds in Rath. Inquiries should be made to KDA, Kilcormac at 057-9135512. They also have a vacancy for a catering operative at their Meals on Wheels provision.

U16 B Hurling Final

Shamrocks 2-13
Drumcullen/Seir Kieran 1-7
We had to concede defeat to a strong and skilful Shamrocks team in Banagher on Saturday morning. The team probably played below previous form and this is disappointing but the players and management should be proud of the enjoyment they provided during the year. We thank them for that and have no doubt their skill and commitment will bring greater rewards in the future.

Junior Camogie Final

Congratulations to the Lusmagh/Drumcullen camogie team on their success in the final on Saturday last in what was a very enjoyable game.

County Finals

Well done to Kieran Dooley and his team on their performance in officiating at the Intermediate final on Sunday. Congratulations to Ballinamere on their victory in that game and to Kilcormac/Killoughey on winning the 2017 Senior Hurling Championship. We wish them and all other Offaly teams the best of luck in their Leinster campaigns.

Faithful Fields

Well done to Offaly County Board and to all associated with this magnificent project. It is a truly remarkable achievement and will no doubt contribute to the sense of pride our players will have in driving Offaly forward to success in the future.

U8/10/12

Many thanks to Feenagh/Kilmeedy (Limerick) for the great reception and hospitality on our trip there on Saturday last. The children had a most enjoyable time and we are grateful also to the coaches and many parents who travelled either on the bus or by their own steam.

Coaching Course

We are indebted to John Leahy who conducted a very informative and interesting ‘Player Decision Making’ course on Saturday last. The course was well received by all of our coaches who attended.
