Senior ‘B’ Hurling Championship

Drumcullen 1-16

Tullamore 1-21

Drumcullen missed an opportunity to advance to the semi-final when a below par performance brought against Tullamore who were worthy winners. However the big talking point here was the disgraceful condition of the playing surface in Clara where the grass had obviously not been cut for a number of weeks. While this did not affect the result, both sets of players were left frustrated at having to deal with  conditions unsuited for hurling or indeed any field sport. Teams were level at the break 1-10 to 0-13, and while the teams were evenly matched for most of the second period a Tullamore goal opened a gap we were unable to bridge. Drumcullen will now play Carrig & Riverstown in a quarter final in two weeks. Team: E. Gath, D. Mahon D. Guinan, B. Kinsella, D. Maher, H. Ryan, C. Guinan, J. Cashin (0-2), K. Fleury (0-1), R. Gath, D. Gath (0-1), M. Kennedy (0-1), J. Murray (1-1), Conor Gath (0-7), Colm Gath (0-2). Subs used: J. McCarthy, S. Hanrahan, B. O’Meara.

Junior ‘B’ Hurling championship

Drumcullen 0-17

Belmont 1-11

This was an entertaining and keenly contested game played on a perfect surface at Moystown on Friday evening.  Drumcullen led from the start and were 0-9 to 0-6 ahead at half time. They continued to control the game although a soft goal conceded towards the end made for a nervy finish. We now proceed to a semi-final against neighbours KK next weekend. Great credit to Ger McIntyre and his fellow mentors and the players for their commitment in this campaign. Team: A. Mannion, S. Kelly, J. Kelly, M. Hennessy, L. Kelly, W. Spain, J. Brophy, C. Dooley, P. Spain, J. Troy (0-11), D. Troy, D. Spain (0-1), M. Connolly (0-1), N. O’Leary (0-2), M. Kennedy (0-2). Subs used: C. Guilfoyle, T. O’Brien, A. Moran.

U13 Hurling Qtr Final

Kilcormac/ Killoughey 5-20

Drumcullen/Seir Kieran 3-8

A very strong KK were masters from the start in this game at Crinkle on Saturday morning. Trailing 4-12 to 0-6 at the break, DSK put in a spirited second half but the damage was already done. The team now go forward to play in the shield semi-final against other defeated quarter finalists.

Under 13 Hurling Preliminary Qtr Final

Drumcullen/Seir Kieran 7-7

Ballinamere 2-3

This was an unexpectedly one-sided contest which allowed team management to introduce a range of substitutes who gained valuable game time. Leading by 5-3 t0 2-1 at the break, the result was never in doubt. The win qualifies the team for a Qtr Final tilt with Kilcormac Killoughey at the weekend.

Club notes -26th August 2019

Results

The past week was a mixed bag with the Drumcullen/Seir Kieran U15’s losing heavily to Clara in a play-off while missing some players who might have made a difference.

The Minor Hurlers of Seir Kieran/Drumcullen lost narrowly to Clara by 1-20 to 4-8, the teams retiring level at the break, 2-5 to 0-11. SKD started the second half brightly with two early points on the resumption but Clara dominated thereafter and but for two goals by Luke Carey and a fine display by John Coughlan the margin might have been greater. Nevertheless they have won two of their three round robin games which put them in a good position.

In the Junior ‘B’ Championship we were given a walk-over by Tullamore who were unable to field a full team while our Seniors had a useful 5-14 to 1-14 victory over Kilcormac/Killoughey in Banagher on Saturday. Goals by John Murray, Mark Kennedy, Padraic Cashin, Conor Gath x2, proving the difference between the teams.

Speedy recovery.

We wish Padraig Guinan a speedy recover from his injury he received in the previous round of the championship.

U16 Camogie.

We wish our U16 camogie girls the best of luck in the County Final on Sunday next. Venue and time TBC.

Junior B Hurling Championship

Drumcullen 0-12

Carrig & Riverstown 2-8

Drumcullen had enough chances to win this game but inaccuracy cost dearly and the concession of goals in each half proved the difference. Level at the break,1-4 to 0-7, Drumcullen took the lead in the second half but were unlucky to concede defeat at the end. Their next game is on Saturday next in Rath v Tullamore at 3pm and a win is essential to retain hopes of qualifying for the knock-out stages

Team: A. Mannion, S, Kelly, J. Kelly, A. Moran, L. Kelly, J. Brophy, D. Troy, C. Dooley, M. Kennedy (0-1), P. Spain (0-1), J. Troy (0-5), N. O’Leary (0-4), E. Barrett, T. O’Brien, D. Spain (0-1). Subs used: C. Guilfoyle, M. Hennessy, N. Bugler.

U13 Hurling Championship Play-off

Drumcullen/Seir Kieran  3-14

Coolderry 0-7

This was a strange result as the teams had fought out a tight game two weeks previously with Coolderry looking the stronger and coming out on top. On this occasion, it was one-way traffic from the start as DSK built up a commanding 2-9 to 0-3 lead at the break in Clareen. The second half was more competitive but a well worked goal put the result beyond doubt. Coolderry sportingly agreed to bring forward the game as DSK had some influential players leaving on holidays the following day. Team: K. Spain, G. Dooley, J. Troy, K. Morris, E. O’Neill, J. Ryan, J. Hennessy, M. Ryan (1-3), S. Carey, R. Hollywood (0-1), J. Foley (0-1), K.  Dooner, D. Hollywood (1-6), J. Dooner (1-0), P. Lyons (0-3) Subs; C. Mannion, C. Nugent, O. Darcy, K. Carey, D. Dooley.

Minor Hurling Championship

Seir Kieran/Drumcullen 3-13

Belmont 2-13

Leading by ten points at half – time, SKD conceded two second half goals when facing the evening sun and had to depend on a well executed goal to maintain their unbeaten status in the championship.

Club Notes -12th August 2019

Senior ‘B’ Hurling Championship

Drumcullen 1-21

Shamrocks 2-11

Five points in as many minutes at the start gave Drumcullen a foothold they never lost and were the better team throughout. Played in Moystown on a blustery and showery Friday evening there were many excellent displays and the concession of two late goals only served to put a gloss on the scoreboard. At that stage Drumcullen had lost Donal and Podge Guinan from the spine of their defence through injury and we wish them both a speedy recovery. Leading 0-12 t0 0-5 at the break, Drumcullen never looked in danger of losing although the performance dropped somewhat in the second half. With two games to play they have qualified for the knock-out stages already with seven points. Team: E. Gath, B. Kinsella, D. Guinan, D. Mahon, D. Maher, P. Guinan, H. Ryan, J. Cashin (0-1), K. Fleury, R. Gath (0-3), D. Gath (0-4), M. Kennedy (0-1), J. Murray, Conor Gath (0-8), Colm Gath (1-4) Subs: C. Guinan, D. Spain, P. Cashin.

U13 Hurling Championship (Play-off)

Drumcullen/Seir Kieran 6-9

Lusmagh/Kinnitty 4-7

This was a fine game which was in the balance until the last few minutes. L/K were the physically stronger outfit and looked the more likely winner at different stages but DSK ability to finish with goals was the decisive factor coupled with stout defending to prevent scores at the other end. DSK led 3-6 to 2-4 at half-time and while L/K drew level in the second half they were never able to lead and DSK were deserving winners. They now go forward to play Coolderry. Team: K. Spain, G. Dooley, K. Morris, J. Hennessy, J. Dooner, J. Ryan, J. Foley, M. Ryan (2-0), J. Troy, R. Hollywood, S. Carey (0-5), C. Mannion, P. Lyons (0-1), D. Hollywood (4-3), C. Nugent. Subs used: D. Dooley, K. Carey, J. Dooley.
