Club Notes -27th February 2017

Coaching Course

John Leahy will conduct a course on Player Decision Making on Saturday next 4th March from 10am to 1pm in the clubhouse. All our underage coaches will attend while it is also open to anyone else who might be interested.

Come Dine with Me

We are very grateful to the twenty hosts and their diners for their participation. The evening was a great success and our thanks also to Catherine Troy for hosting the afters. Many dressed in novel theme-wear which added greatly to the occasion and to the great fun enjoyed by all.

Div. 1 Hurling league

Drumcullen travelled to Shinrone on Saturday last for round 1 and were disappointed with the result on a difficult day for hurling.

Lotto

Numbers drawn Sunday 26th were 3, 18. 24 & 28. There was no jackpot winner and Noel Murray c/o Self, Stephen Ryan c/o Shammy Nolan, Nicola O’Leary c/o Shammy Nolan and Eoin Mannion c/o Noel Mannion were match three winners of €40 each. John Guinan won the promoters prize. This week’s jackpot is €15,950 and Team 5 are on rota. We appreciate the continued support of promoters and subscribers.

Offaly GAA Lotto.

Anyone wishing to enter the Offaly lotto should contact any committee member. In doing so you are  assisting the club in meeting its levy obligations and would be much appreciated. You also have a chance of winning a jackpot up to €20,000.

Come Dine With Me

There was a good response to this event which will culminate in what promises to be another great occasion in the Ramblers Rest, Killyon on Saturday night. Hosts and guests will be appearing in fancy dress to add to the event.

Come Dine with Me’

The club is seeking hosts for a Come Dine with Me event which will happen on 25th February. The response to date is very encouraging and is seen as a fun way to engage socially. This involves hosts inviting friends to their house for a meal for which they contribute €25 each. Proceeds go to the club development fund. Following the meal, transport will be provided to and from Catherine Troy’s pub for musical and other entertainment. Our new website  www.drumcullengaa.com was launched on 1st February and is well worth a visit. The site will be added to as time passes and we welcome comments, stories and photographs which may be of interest. We are grateful to all those who contributed but especially to Fiona Darcy who committed great skill and endless hours to its creation and without whom it would not have happened. We are very appreciative and indebted to Fiona for her generosity and contribution to the project.

Liam Lyons Academy

U6/8s back in the Rath Hall on Tuesday 14th from 6.30pm while u10/12s come back on Thursday 16th. Texts will be sent to all parents. A new nursery programme, in co-operation with the camogie club, for 4/5-year-old will begin on Saturday 18th at 11am also in the hall introducing the children to hurling via the Damien Young model: Goals + Goals = Fun + Fun + Fun. Note from the school will sent to all parents. Coaching in Scoil Eoin returned last Friday and will continue as weather permits. We are indebted to Joe O’Brien, Ger McIntyre, Kieran Dooley, Fergal Dooley and Majella Dooley for their time and commitment.

We welcome Adrian Clancy, St. Rynaghs, as coach for 2017 and we wish him and the players the best of luck in the year ahead. Training commences on Tuesday and again on Saturday from 4pm.

Club Development Plan.

The club has applied to for grant aid towards the various projects at our grounds and we will not have a response until later this year. A condition of the application is that none of the work should commence until that decision is made.

Annual General Meeting

A well-attended AGM was provided with comprehensive reports from club secretary Dermot Horan and Treasurer Peter Lyons. Chairman, Toni Ryan thanked all those involved in any way with the club over the past year, especially those involved in coaching and team preparation at any level. All outgoing officers were returned unopposed. Prior to the meeting, Liam Hogan gave a well-received talk on the ‘Offaly Hurling Pathway’ and we appreciate him making the effort to travel from Dublin. Read the full report here  »

Referees Foundation Course

We have two referees who have achieved great recognition at county level. Kieran Dooley and Shane Guinan have officiated at various levels with success. Anyone wishing to pursue this example should contact club secretary Dermot Horan.

Congratulations

Well done to former County Board chairman, Pat Teehan on his comprehensive victory in his election as Vice-Chairman of Leinster Council at Leinster Convention last Saturday. Pat will assume the position of Chairman of Leinster Council in 2020. We wish him well.
