U15B Hurling Semi-final

Our U15 hurlers had a superb win over Na Fianna on Sunday morning in Moystown winning by 3-12 to 1 -6. This was a fantastic team effort with players excelling all over the field in the second half to pull away over the closing quarter. Brian Pardy and Cathal Bergin were in scoring form in the forwards while Conor Ryan, Patrick Carroll and Conor Lyons we’re solid in Defence throughout. Some of the u13 players showed great skill in overcoming bigger stronger opposition. Best of luck to the lads this Sunday morning in the Final v Coolderry in Kinnitty. Team Killian Spain, Conor Lyons, Riain Carroll, John Troy, Conor Ryan, Patrick Carroll, Jack Mooney, Stephen Gilligan, Fiacra Dooley, Dara Boyd, Gearoid Dooley, Brian Pardy, Oisin Guinan, Cathal Bergin, Dylan Hollywood. Subs Patrick Lyons for Fiachra Dooley, Jack Ryan for John Troy, Sean Carey for Dylan Hollywood, Injured PJ Bracken

U13 Shield ‘A’ Final

Drumcullen / Seir Kieran 3-9

Clara 0-5

The final score line scarcely reflects how keenly this game was contested throughout. While DSK finished strongly it was the good start which gave a foothold for the remainder of the game. A goal and point each from D. Hollywood and P. Lyons saw us lead at the break by 2-2 to 0-2. Clara were left to rue so many wides in each half which could have made for a different result. Played on a perfect surface in the Faithful Fields on Sunday morning, the game was entertaining from start to finish with many outstanding performances. Defences were mainly on top and DSK were well marshalled at the back by J. Troy and J. Ryan in the spine, ably assisted by the excellent K. Carey and J. Hennessy while K. Morris and G. Dooley gave little away. At midfield, M. Og Ryan and S. Carey worked tirelessly. While D. Hollywood was the stand-out attacker, it must be said that  E. O’Neill was a constant thorn in the Clara defence and his 2pt second half contribution was hugely important. Moving P. Lyons to midfield later in the second half was  a shrewd move and R. Hollywood and Kyle and Jake Dooner always occupied their opponents.

A gap of 5 points was maintained for most of the second half, thanks mainly to the excellence of K. Spain in goals and  until a Kyle Dooner goal opened a comfortable gap and when DSK’s best performer pound for pound, K. Carey advanced to put his name on the scoring, there was only one result from there on.

Joint captains, Jack Ryan and Eanna O’Neill were presented with the winner’s trophy and the squad were entertained  later at the clubhouse. Congratulations to players and management on a great year of entertainment. In addition to this win they have also won the Offaly ‘B’ league and the Leinster Div 3 league. Well done to all and to the huge number who have given such support throughout the season. Team: K. Spain, K. Morris, J. Troy, G. Dooley, K. Carey,(0-1), J. Ryan, J. Hennessy, M. Og Ryan, S. Carey,  D. Hollywood(1-5),  E. O’Neill(0-2), K. Dooner(1-0), R. Hollywood, P. Lyons(1-1), J. Dooner.Subs: C. Mannion, R. O’Neill,J. Dooley, P. Ryan. Also: O. Darcy, J.Foley, A. Carroll, C. Senior ‘B’ Hurling Championship Qtr Final

Carrig & Riverstown 4-12

Drumcullen 1-13

A late goal was no consolation as we suffered a heavy defeat in a most disappointing performance. Nothing went right on the day although there was no lack of preparation and commitment.  We appreciate the efforts  of players and management during the year. (See report elsewhere)

Underage results.

It was a mixed bag during the week when the Seir Kieran/Drumcullen Minor Hurlers lost heavily to Kilcormac/Killoughey by 7.15 to 2-9 having trailed  2-7 to 2-6 at the break. They now enter the shield competition. Drumcullen/Seir Kieran U13’s had a great win in the Shield semi-final when defeating CRC Gaels by 6-14 to 4-8 and now go on to the final in the Faithful Fields on Sunday morning at 12.15. Our U15’s went down 2-20 to 1-5 to a very strong Ferbane /Belmont team in the preliminary quarter and now enter the shield semi-final.

Craughwell U12 Tournament

Drumcullen’s U12’s travelled to Galway on Sunday morning and having defeated the hosts, James Cusacks  and Oranmore/Maree they conceded defeat to a very good and huge (size wise) Ballinasloe team By 1-8 to 0-5. in the final. Fatigue may have been a factor as they entertained Roscrea on Saturday in which Kieran Coughlan sustained a broken finger. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Lotto:

Numbers drawn Saturday 21st September were 6, 13, 17 & 24. There was no jackpot winner and Killian & Eoin c/o Gavin Nugent and

Junior ‘B’ Hurling Semi-Final

Drumcullen 1-11

Kilcormac/Killoughey 1-18.

A promising opening half which had us leading at the break 1-7 to 0-8 gave way to a collapse thereafter only adding four to our tally. It was ominous that we were depending greatly on Joe Troy’s accuracy with minimal assistance up front apart from the efforts of Mark Kennedy and Niall O’Leary. Leading by four after 40 minutes we seemed to retreat in defence and handed the initiative to KK who were physically stronger in the heavy conditions. Alan Mannion could not be faulted in goals while Joe Kelly was outstanding at full back with excellent support from Aaron Moran, Mark Hennessy and John Brophy. Cathal Dooley tried hard throughout at midfield but the desired result was not to be. This was a game that could have been won but we had to concede to the better team on the day. We are appreciative of the efforts of management and players during the year and while things did not go well on the day they are capable of better days and should look forward positively to 2020. Team: A. Mannion, A. Moran, J. Kelly, M. Hennessy, L. Kelly, W. Spain, J. Brophy,  P. Spain, C. Dooley, J. Troy (1-8), D.Troy, D. Spain, N.O’Leary (0-1), C. Guilfoyle, M. Kennedy (0-2), Subs: Tadhg O’Brien.

U12 Hurling League

Thanks to all the players & Management of the six teams that took part in the 1st Drumcullen U12 Tournament. The big winner here was Offaly hurling with lots of talent for future development squads on show. Well done to all the clubs who played these games in the spirit it was set up for -which was to develop hurling skills In the kids.

Senior ‘B’ Hurling Championship

Drumcullen 1-16

Tullamore 1-21

Drumcullen missed an opportunity to advance to the semi-final when a below par performance brought against Tullamore who were worthy winners. However the big talking point here was the disgraceful condition of the playing surface in Clara where the grass had obviously not been cut for a number of weeks. While this did not affect the result, both sets of players were left frustrated at having to deal with  conditions unsuited for hurling or indeed any field sport. Teams were level at the break 1-10 to 0-13, and while the teams were evenly matched for most of the second period a Tullamore goal opened a gap we were unable to bridge. Drumcullen will now play Carrig & Riverstown in a quarter final in two weeks. Team: E. Gath, D. Mahon D. Guinan, B. Kinsella, D. Maher, H. Ryan, C. Guinan, J. Cashin (0-2), K. Fleury (0-1), R. Gath, D. Gath (0-1), M. Kennedy (0-1), J. Murray (1-1), Conor Gath (0-7), Colm Gath (0-2). Subs used: J. McCarthy, S. Hanrahan, B. O’Meara.

Junior ‘B’ Hurling championship

Drumcullen 0-17

Belmont 1-11

This was an entertaining and keenly contested game played on a perfect surface at Moystown on Friday evening.  Drumcullen led from the start and were 0-9 to 0-6 ahead at half time. They continued to control the game although a soft goal conceded towards the end made for a nervy finish. We now proceed to a semi-final against neighbours KK next weekend. Great credit to Ger McIntyre and his fellow mentors and the players for their commitment in this campaign. Team: A. Mannion, S. Kelly, J. Kelly, M. Hennessy, L. Kelly, W. Spain, J. Brophy, C. Dooley, P. Spain, J. Troy (0-11), D. Troy, D. Spain (0-1), M. Connolly (0-1), N. O’Leary (0-2), M. Kennedy (0-2). Subs used: C. Guilfoyle, T. O’Brien, A. Moran.

U13 Hurling Qtr Final

Kilcormac/ Killoughey 5-20

Drumcullen/Seir Kieran 3-8

A very strong KK were masters from the start in this game at Crinkle on Saturday morning. Trailing 4-12 to 0-6 at the break, DSK put in a spirited second half but the damage was already done. The team now go forward to play in the shield semi-final against other defeated quarter finalists.

Under 13 Hurling Preliminary Qtr Final

Drumcullen/Seir Kieran 7-7

Ballinamere 2-3

This was an unexpectedly one-sided contest which allowed team management to introduce a range of substitutes who gained valuable game time. Leading by 5-3 t0 2-1 at the break, the result was never in doubt. The win qualifies the team for a Qtr Final tilt with Kilcormac Killoughey at the weekend.

Results

The past week was a mixed bag with the Drumcullen/Seir Kieran U15’s losing heavily to Clara in a play-off while missing some players who might have made a difference.

The Minor Hurlers of Seir Kieran/Drumcullen lost narrowly to Clara by 1-20 to 4-8, the teams retiring level at the break, 2-5 to 0-11. SKD started the second half brightly with two early points on the resumption but Clara dominated thereafter and but for two goals by Luke Carey and a fine display by John Coughlan the margin might have been greater. Nevertheless they have won two of their three round robin games which put them in a good position.

In the Junior ‘B’ Championship we were given a walk-over by Tullamore who were unable to field a full team while our Seniors had a useful 5-14 to 1-14 victory over Kilcormac/Killoughey in Banagher on Saturday. Goals by John Murray, Mark Kennedy, Padraic Cashin, Conor Gath x2, proving the difference between the teams.

Speedy recovery.

We wish Padraig Guinan a speedy recover from his injury he received in the previous round of the championship.

U16 Camogie.

We wish our U16 camogie girls the best of luck in the County Final on Sunday next. Venue and time TBC.

Junior B Hurling Championship

Drumcullen 0-12

Carrig & Riverstown 2-8

Drumcullen had enough chances to win this game but inaccuracy cost dearly and the concession of goals in each half proved the difference. Level at the break,1-4 to 0-7, Drumcullen took the lead in the second half but were unlucky to concede defeat at the end. Their next game is on Saturday next in Rath v Tullamore at 3pm and a win is essential to retain hopes of qualifying for the knock-out stages

Team: A. Mannion, S, Kelly, J. Kelly, A. Moran, L. Kelly, J. Brophy, D. Troy, C. Dooley, M. Kennedy (0-1), P. Spain (0-1), J. Troy (0-5), N. O’Leary (0-4), E. Barrett, T. O’Brien, D. Spain (0-1). Subs used: C. Guilfoyle, M. Hennessy, N. Bugler.

U13 Hurling Championship Play-off

Drumcullen/Seir Kieran  3-14

Coolderry 0-7

This was a strange result as the teams had fought out a tight game two weeks previously with Coolderry looking the stronger and coming out on top. On this occasion, it was one-way traffic from the start as DSK built up a commanding 2-9 to 0-3 lead at the break in Clareen. The second half was more competitive but a well worked goal put the result beyond doubt. Coolderry sportingly agreed to bring forward the game as DSK had some influential players leaving on holidays the following day. Team: K. Spain, G. Dooley, J. Troy, K. Morris, E. O’Neill, J. Ryan, J. Hennessy, M. Ryan (1-3), S. Carey, R. Hollywood (0-1), J. Foley (0-1), K.  Dooner, D. Hollywood (1-6), J. Dooner (1-0), P. Lyons (0-3) Subs; C. Mannion, C. Nugent, O. Darcy, K. Carey, D. Dooley.

Minor Hurling Championship

Seir Kieran/Drumcullen 3-13

Leading by ten points at half – time, SKD conceded two second half goals when facing the evening sun and had to depend on a well executed goal to maintain their unbeaten status in the championship.

Senior ‘B’ Hurling Championship

Drumcullen 1-21

Shamrocks 2-11

Five points in as many minutes at the start gave Drumcullen a foothold they never lost and were the better team throughout. Played in Moystown on a blustery and showery Friday evening there were many excellent displays and the concession of two late goals only served to put a gloss on the scoreboard. At that stage Drumcullen had lost Donal and Podge Guinan from the spine of their defence through injury and we wish them both a speedy recovery. Leading 0-12 t0 0-5 at the break, Drumcullen never looked in danger of losing although the performance dropped somewhat in the second half. With two games to play they have qualified for the knock-out stages already with seven points. Team: E. Gath, B. Kinsella, D. Guinan, D. Mahon, D. Maher, P. Guinan, H. Ryan, J. Cashin (0-1), K. Fleury, R. Gath (0-3), D. Gath (0-4), M. Kennedy (0-1), J. Murray, Conor Gath (0-8), Colm Gath (1-4) Subs: C. Guinan, D. Spain, P. Cashin.

U13 Hurling Championship (Play-off)

Drumcullen/Seir Kieran 6-9

Lusmagh/Kinnitty 4-7

This was a fine game which was in the balance until the last few minutes. L/K were the physically stronger outfit and looked the more likely winner at different stages but DSK ability to finish with goals was the decisive factor coupled with stout defending to prevent scores at the other end. DSK led 3-6 to 2-4 at half-time and while L/K drew level in the second half they were never able to lead and DSK were deserving winners. They now go forward to play Coolderry. Team: K. Spain, G. Dooley, K. Morris, J. Hennessy, J. Dooner, J. Ryan, J. Foley, M. Ryan (2-0), J. Troy, R. Hollywood, S. Carey (0-5), C. Mannion, P. Lyons (0-1), D. Hollywood (4-3), C. Nugent. Subs used: D. Dooley, K.
