U15 Hurling Championship Play-Off

Drumcullen/Seir Kieran 2-11

Kinnitty/Lusmagh 0-7.

K/L made all the early running and led 0-4 t0 0-1 midway through the first half. However, DSK settled with the help of a goal and were level at half -time at 1-3 to 0-6 having faced a strong breeze. Although the second period was well contested but the ability of DSK to convert their chances and some strong performances around the field led to a convincing victory helped by the free-taking of Oisin Guinan and 2-2 from Dylan Hollywood and an outstanding display from Patrick Carroll at full back. They now play Coolderry and a win would see them through to the knock-out stages.

Senior ‘B’ Hurling Championship

Drumcullen 2-12

Clodiagh Gaels 1-15

This was a slow burner which caught fire in the last quarter. Teams were level at 0-6 each at the break and while Drumcullen trailed by four at the three-quarter stage they showed great character to force their way back and a goal from John Murray and a smasher from Colm Gath put us ahead by three. Clodiagh Gaels fought back with a goal to level and while both teams had chances to win, a draw was probably a fair result, Full credit to Noel Cooney who stood in when the appointed referee failed to appear causing a 35 minute delay to the start. Team: E. Gath, D. Mahon, D. Guinan, B. Kinsela, J. Cashin, P. Guinan, D. Maher, R. Gath (0-2), K. Fleury, J. Murray(1-0), D. Gath (0-1), M. Kennedy(0-1), J. McCarthy, Conor Gath(0-7), B.O’Meara. Subs: H. Ryan, Colm Gath(1-1), P. Cashin, D. Spain.

U15 Hurling Championship

Kinnitty/Lusmagh 2-8

Drumcullen/Seir Kieran 1-10

A facile victory on Sunday evening in Rath in poor conditions was followed by a narrow one point loss to the same opponents on Monday evening in Kinnitty. This game was close for the most part. KL took a 2-2 to 0-3 lead at the break which was wiped out within minutes of the re-start but KL pushed ahead again to lead by three before DSK finished strongly and were unlucky not to force a draw.

Congrats to Shane Lowry on his magnificent victory in The Open

Senior ‘B’ Hurling Championship

Seir Kieran 1-20

Drumcullen 0-20

There was never much between these teams in a third round tie played in perfect conditions in Birr on Sunday. Drumcullen made most of the running early on but the concession of an early goal was to prove costly in the end.The early loss of Danny Maher through injury was a major setback. At the break the teams were locked at 0-10 to 1-7. Drumcullen took the lead for a time in the second half before the raging hot championship favourites took a grip on proceedings to establish a five point lead. Drumcullen fought back towards the end but it was too little too late. Our next game is on Saturday 27th at 3pm v Clodiagh Gaels in  Mucklagh. : Team: E. Gath, D. Maher, D. Guinan, D. Mahon, J. Cashin (0-1), P. Guinan, C. Guinan, R. Gath, K. Fleury(0-2), J. Murray(0-1), D. Gath(0-1), M. Kennedy(0-4), J. McCarthy(0-1), C. Gath(0-8), B. O’Meara(0-1), Subs: B. Kinsella for D. Maher; D. Spain for K. Fleury and H. Ryan for R. Gath.

Junior ‘B’ Hurling Championship

Drumcullen 3-17

Seir Kieran 2-7

The basis for this win was laid early with two goals in the first five minutes. Played in Rath on Monday evening, Drumcullen went on to lead by 2-13 to 1-5 at half time. The second half was more evenly fought but the result was never in doubt. It was an encouraging performance although it came at the cost of losing influential players like Niall O’Leary and William Spain to injury in the first half. Team : A. Mannion, S. Kelly, J. Kelly, A. Moran, L. Kelly, J. Brophy, D. Troy, C. Dooley(0-1), W. Spain(0-1), D. Spain(1-1), J. Troy(0-10), P. Spain, M. Connolly(0-1), N. O’Leary(2-0), M. Kennedy(0-3): Subs used E. U13 Hurling Championship

Drumcullen/SeirKieran 4-14

Shamrocks 0-5

Played in excellent conditions in Rahan on Friday evening, this game served neither side to good effect. It was evident from early that DSK were too strong going on to lead 1-8 to 0-1 at half time. The win came at a cost with a wrist injury to Patrick Lyons which will keep him out of some upcoming games. Fielding also without John Foley who suffered a broken finger in the Cul Camp earlier in the week. We wish both players a speedy recovery : Team: K. Spain, G. Dooley, K. Morris, J. Hennessy, J. Troy, J. Ryan, J. Dooner, S,  Carey, D. Hollywood, M. Og Ryan, E. O’Neill, K. Dooner, R. Hollywood, P. Lyons, C. Creamer. Subs: C. Mannion, O. Darcy, D. Dooley, K. Carey, J, Collins, A, Carroll. Junior B championship

Kilcormac/Killoughey 1-16 Drumcullen 0-10

In an entertaining first round fixture at Rath on Thursday evening, the greater experience and craft of a mainly veteran K/K was enough to see them through. The opening half was evenly contested with the sides trading points to leave it 0-8 each at the break. On the resumption the gap began to grow and with Drumcullen missing a host of chances, the visitors pulled away and a late goal sealed the win for the visitors. There were still some positives to draw from the game with some decent individual displays and under Ger McIntyre’s guidance the team can look ahead to some success in this competition. Team: A. Mannion, S. Kelly, J. Kelly , A. Moran, L. Kelly, H. Troy, D. Troy, N. O’Leary, J. McCarthy, (0-4), J. Troy (0-2), W. Spain, C. Guilfoyle(0-2), M. Kennedy(0-1), A. McHugh, P. Spain(0-1).
