U17 Quarter final

Drumcullen/Seir Kieran 2-14 Ballinamere/Durrow 2-10
This was a titanic struggle at the Faithful Fields in cold but perfect conditions on Monday evening. Ballinamere looked the likely winners for most of the game but with outstanding performances from John Coughlan and Tom Dooley in particular DSK hung on and finished strongly. A great goal from Barry Connolly and an inspirational point from Mark Kennedy sealed the win. DSK opened the scoring but were trailing until the 50th minute but once they got their noses in front they fought like tigers to prevent a lively opposition from establishing a foothold. Well done to all concerned and we look forward to a semi-final.

U11’s

Our U11’s had their graduation ceremony from The Liam Lyons Academy on Saturday last. Our special guest on the day was Brian Carroll. Those who graduated were Cian Mannion, John Foley, Cormac Creamer, Ryan Hollywood, Cormac Nugent, Gearoid Dooley, Oisín Darcy, Martín Ryan, & James Hennessy. These lads will join Drumcullen/Seir Kieran next year at U13 level. A big thanks to Brian for taking the time out of his busy weekend to spend time with the lads and for the words of inspiration. Unfortunately things did not go his and Coolderry’s way on Sunday, but they done the county proud with their heroic efforts.

Sympathy

We extend our deepest sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of the late Michael O’Leary, Thomastown and Chicago. Michael won two minor championships with the club in 1967 and again in ’68 when he captained the team. An utterly fearless competitor, he also featured on the Offaly Vocational Schools team who were narrowly defeated in the All Ireland final in 1968 alongside seven of his club colleagues. His departure to the USA was a huge loss to the club incomparable now to the loss felt by his grieving family. A very proud Drumcullen and Offaly supporter, he kept in constant touch with both club and county activity and recently attended the Offaly Senior Hurling final despite his failing health. A great and unforgettable character he will be sorely missed by all who had the good fortune to know him. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.
