Club Notes -10th September 2018

Senior ‘B’ Quarter Final

Shamrocks 0-25

Drumcullen 1-21

A disappointing end to a roller-coaster season at St. Brendans Park on Saturday last. A series of un-forced errors in the second half undermined the confidence gained from a decent first half after which we led by 0-11 to 0-6. Boosted by these which yielded four points, Shamrocks went on to force a draw- 0-17 each- and then dominated extra time. Injuries and illness lessened our impact but credit to players and management for their commitment and application during the year which is greatly appreciated by the club (See report elsewhere)

Next Jackpot is €9,050 and team 5 is on rota next week.

Club Notes -16th July 2018

Senior B Hurling Championship

Drumcullen 0-12
Lusmagh 4-16
Drumcullen supporters travelled to Moystown on Sunday morning hoping the team would get back on track following a disappointing loss to Shamrocks in the previous round. However, they came away bitterly disappointed by a performance well below what is required to remain at this level, not to mention qualifying for the knockout stages. Lusmagh could scarcely believe how easy they found scores and the outcome was never in doubt before the break at which point the score stood at 3-9 to 0-6. Team: D. Spain, B. Kinsella, D. Maher, B. O’Meara, C. Guinan, D. Gath, D. Guinan, J. Cashin, R. Gath, Conor Gath (0-10), H. Ryan, J. Murray, J. McCarthy, Colm Gath (0-2), E. Gath, Subs used: K. Fleury, D. Mahon, E. Barrett, T. Leahy.

Community Games

After winning the Offaly Community Games U11 hurling title last month, our young hurlers travelled to Trim last Saturday to play Dicksboro of Kilkenny in the Leinster Final. These young hurlers played fantastically throughout, however the City opposition proved too strong and went on to win with score of 1:05 to 4:06. A Leinster Community games silver medal is a just reward for this special team. A big thanks to the huge number of supporters who travelled on the day. Team; Rory McIntyre. Kieran Coughlan. Mark Gleeson. Oisin Darcy (Capt). James Dooley. Macdarra Murphy. Mairtin Og Ryan, Jack Molloy. Michael Hackett. Peadar Ryan, James Hennessy. Hugh Claffey. Aaron Dooley. Harry Carroll and Aaron Quegan.

Club Notes -27th August 2018

Senior ‘B’ Hurling Championship.

Drumcullen 1-21

Carrig & Riverstown 0-23.

This narrow win at Birr on Sunday morning ensured a place in the quarter finals after a roller-coaster type campaign. Interestingly the four wins in the competition came against the two teams at the top and the bottom of the table following seven games. This game was in the balance throughout and the final whistle was greeted with relief. The minimum separated the teams at the break – 1-10 to 0-12 – as the lead changed hands a number of times. Drumcullen continued to lead but were never able to put themselves in a commanding position. We must acknowledge the leadership role of Dermot Gath who was outstanding, particularly in the second half although every player contributed in some way to this important win.. Drumcullen will now meet Shamrocks probably on the weekend of September 8/9. Team: E. Gath, B. O’Meara, D.Guinan, B. Kinsella, J. Cashin, Colm Gath (0-1), D. Maher, C. Guinan, R. Gath (0-1), D. Spain (0-2), D. Gath (0-2), S. Hanrahan (0-1), Conor Gath (1-10), T. Leahy (0-1), J.Murray (0-2), Subs used: H. Ryan, P. Guinan (0-1), J. McCarthy

Results,

U13 Championship: After leading by 2:03 to 0:08 at half time against Shamrocks, Drumcullen/Seir Kieran managed to hold on to the narrowest of leads to win by 2:07 to 0:12. It was a real tough battle with our lads out sized mostly on the field but not out battled. This results means that Drumcullen Seir Kieran, Shamrocks & Coolderry are all on 4 points, so a playoff will be needed to see who goes through.

Junior B championship; Drumcullen played Kilcormac Killoughey in Kilcormac on Saturday last. Both teams were level at half time. However with KK leading by two points in the final minutes, Drumcullen got a chance to take the match with a penalty, however it was not our day as it was saved and resulted in a win for KK with the final score -Drumcullen 4:07 Kilcormac Killoughey 1:18

Club Notes -11th June 2018

Community Games Hurling:
Following on from their successful campaign against Kilcormac/Killoughey and Shinrone/Coolderry in the semi-final. Eglish/Drumcullen Community Games took on Clara in the U11 Community Games final in Rath on Wednesday last. From the throw-in the sides were evenly matched and it took 7 minutes for the first score to be registered, this was scored by the inform James Hennessy who scored a point from play which was followed shortly by one from Màirtìn Og Ryan. James again got on a perfectly delivered ball to score the first goal. However Clara came back into the game with a goal to shorten the gap to just two points. To finish the half James Hennessy scored another point to leave it Eglish/Drumcullen 1;03 Clara 1;00. After the break it was Clara who scored first with a point from play, but goals from James and Màirtìn Og and a well taken free by Peadar Ryan from mid-field increased the lead by 9 points. Two further Clara points from frees wasn’t enough, as Màirtìn Og dominated midfield and scored two further goals from long range efforts.
